About

Mbuso Khoza learned music as early as a herdsman for his father’s cattle at the age of six in the KwaZulu-Natal mountains, using melodic sounds to call and direct the cattle and practising Zulu chants during his time in the mountains. He also learnt the spiritual ancestral music and Khoza amaHubo from his mother and listened to the songs of the Zionists at night He has come along way since 2000 when he first arrived in Johannesburg to pursue his music career. His first home in the big city were the streets and alleyways. Job-hunting at recording studios, where he built up a reputation for himself as a top backing vocalist for some of South Africa’s most sought after artists, such as Thandiswa Mazwai, Ringo Madlingozi, popular gospel group Avante and many others. During this time he developed his own sound by opening himself up to different types of music he came across In 2006 his distinctive sound caught the attention of iconic jazz pianist and composer Themba Mkhize, who featured him on two tracks on his album “Hands On”.
